The New Mexico Kids Health Report
Albuquerque, NM, 1998
KUNM-FM worked in partnership with the SouthWest Organizing Project to address children's health in general and prenatal care in particular.
The project had three major goals:
- to encourage more New Mexicans to seek early prenatal care;
- to provide New Mexicans with the information they needed to be knowledgeable about health policies; and
- to build ongoing working relationships with local stakeholders who are involved in children's health issues.
We worked toward these goals in a number of ways. The New Mexico Kids Health Report was produced as a monthly public affairs special program. Through this program we made contacts with children's health providers, policy makers, and community activists.
We aired public service announcements on local commercial radio with large teen audiences.
A community health fair was organized, attracting people from local communities and providing a wide range of health information.
A webpage was also developed, providing updated program information and many links to additional resources.
